Space App Challenge
As a team we faced the challenge Earth data analysis developers wanted!, for this through a map, you can see places in Chile that are severely affected by drought. In many of these places, people survive every week through water trucks, with only 50 liters per day, which are minimal compared to the average of 170 liters per person that each Chilean consumes, which causes people to seek water in unhealthy ways. In fact, according to the activist Rodrigo Mundaca, winner of the Nuremberg Prize:
"Today it is absolutely naturalized that people are given water through water trucks, water that is of dubious quality, which has caused that in poor communities such as Cabildo, diarrhea in the children's community has increased by 200%."
With this, we hope that more people will be able to access information and thus become aware of how the lack of water can become a risk factor for human health, and for the coexistence of a community, which makes up a country.
Mega drought, as mentioned, is a concept coined to define the deficit of water resources in a prolonged period of time, unprecedented and affecting a greater extension of our national territory, where our society, increasingly more complex, is inserted in an economic model that prioritizes the exploitation of limited natural resources (presented as the opposite, The use of natural resources, especially in underdeveloped or developing countries, such as ours, is one of the factors that directly affect climate change, which causes low rainfall levels worldwide. Progress, economic growth at the expense of environmental preservation, presents us with a future that is increasingly drier and warmer, which we are not prepared to face or adapt to.
It is for this reason, moreover, that our work is necessary to visualize how this phenomenon is occurring. With respect to the prevailing economic model, this is neoliberalism, in 2019 we tried to move forward with the Social Outburst claiming all the shortcomings of the country, as we are the only country where water can be bought, and in fact, it is because of this, that the drought is also aggravated, it is a pity of reality, but, reality has always been hard.
